3 Hidden Signs of Storm Damage to Watch Out For

Sometimes, storm damage is not always as obvious as holes in the roof, broken glass in windows, or torn siding. There are cases where the telltale signs are there–only you’ll need to do a double take before you can truly spot them. Deschutes Roofing & Insulation, the premier snow removal company in the area, explains what the subtler signs of storm damage to your home would look like.

  1. Small cracks and chips on the home exterior. As you take a much closer look at your siding following a storm, you may notice that small pieces of it have been broken off. Chips in the siding are often located at the bottom of a siding panel ridge so they’re not always visible at first glance. Aside from chipping, you should also look for small cracks midway between the valley and ridges of the siding panel.
  1. Excess shingle granule loss. You may find that your roofing will usually take the brunt of storm damage, so make sure to check it more thoroughly for telltale signs. These may include considerable granule loss in shingles. Upon impact, large hailstones can knock the granules off your shingles, leaving the substrate of the roof material exposed. This, in turn, makes the shingles more susceptible to water infiltration. Once you notice that your shingles have become worn or ‘bald’, call a certified GAF® roofer like Deschutes Roofing & Insulation promptly for a comprehensive assessment and the necessary solution.
  1. Lifting shingles. High wind speeds can tear the shingles off your roof. Sometimes, however, the roof materials are only loosened. You can tell by the lifting, which means your shingles no longer adhere to the deck and are already pulling away from the roof. There’s an increased potential of roof leaks once this happens. Again, we recommend turning to your trusted local roofer for the appropriate solution to this problem.
