A lot of homeowners are becoming increasingly meticulous about their roofing options — and thanks to new technologies, it is not unreasonable to search for a roof membrane that can both improve the efficiency of your living space and boost the curb appeal of your property. This is why many commercial and residential roofing clients choose to install EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer), a popular type of rubber roof.
If you are considering replacing your old home roof with EPDM, here are the benefits of epdm you can look forward to.
- Low Initial Cost: Compared to other roofing membranes, EPDM roofs generally fall in a lower price range. It is also a suitable option for low-sloped roofs, which are typically found on commercial buildings. Though the installation and manufacturing costs will vary, this roofing material is a good, sensible choice for price-conscious customers.
- Environmentally-Friendly: Along with metal roofing, EPDM is one of the most eco-friendly roofing materials on the market. EPDM roofs come in light-colored variants, allowing them to reflect harmful ultraviolet rays more effectively and even reduce energy bills. Since EPDM is a type of rubber roof, it is 100% recyclable, which contributes to less waste in landfills.
- Long-Lasting: The usual lifespan of an EPDM roof is at least 20 years, given that it was properly installed in the first place. Manufacturers also use formulas that allow the roof to become impervious to sun damage. In addition, EPDM roofs are incredibly resistant to strong winds and hail of up to three inches.
