Reasons You Shouldn’t Fall for Free Roof Deals

When an extreme weather event hits your area and you need a roof repair, you shouldn’t wait too long. Even if there appear to be no signs of damage, you must still have your roof checked following a storm. However, be wary of who you hire when it comes to this part of your home.

Keep on reading to discover reasons you shouldn’t fall for free roof deals.

Roofers Who Claim to Cover Your Deductible

Some contractors offer what seems to be great deals where you can get a new roof for free. They claim that it is legal to cover a homeowner’s deductible cost on their insurance repairs. Other roofers even promote their products as free on door hangers and yard signs. This deal may sound too good to be true because it is. Keep in mind that it’s not legal as well.

Homeowners insurance is a binding agreement among the homeowner, the insurance company, and the roofing contractor. It states the responsibilities of every party in case an incident happens, indicating that the insurance company is the only one responsible for limits, exclusions, and benefits, while the homeowner is responsible for the deductible. Homeowners have nearly the same responsibility if something happens as the insurance provider. It means that when you don’t pay your deductible, it’s considered insurance fraud, which can result in the loss of your coverage and home.

Be Careful of These Contractors

Since insurance companies need to automatically subtract these costs, a roofer who says they will pay your deductible can be inflating their prices on your estimate. They may also be cutting corners on the materials or work they do on your house. Your insurer will likely find out about this and may consider it as a fraud. It can result in criminal penalties, which can affect all parties involved.
