Why Are Your Gutters and Downspouts Noisy?

Nobody likes it when their sleep is interrupted due to the persistent noise of rain hitting metal outside. This unfortunate situation often occurs when there is something wrong with gutters and downspouts. If you want to know the reasons why your gutter system is producing this sound and what you can do about it, keep on reading — a reputable roofing repairs company will guide you through.

Clogged Gutters

Gutters are most efficient when they are free of clogs. As rain flows from your roof surface, the water should gently skate down the gutter and downspouts until it reaches your lawn or garden, where a separate drainage system is located. However, if leaves, twigs and other debris have accumulated in your gutters, the water will not flow peacefully and instead will pool until it overflows. This causes droplets to hit the outside of your downspout, leading to a noisy sound.

Make sure your gutters are free of debris before stormy weather arrives. Trim down overhanging branches, if necessary, or install gutter guards for easier cleanup.

Loose Brackets or Appendages

Both sectional and seamless gutters need to be tightly attached to the structure of your home in order to prevent leaks or water damage. But, over time, strong winds and heavy snow can loosen the hold of your gutters. Even shifts in temperature pull brackets out of place due to frequent expansion and contraction.

Any extra pressure on an already loosened gutter can be enough to cause movement that allows water to pour out and noisily splash against the downspout. To avoid this, check your gutters for any loose or hanging brackets. If you spot issues, call a local contractor to make necessary repairs.

Make sure your gutters and downspouts are functional and noise-free. If you need help, turn to Deschutes Roofing & Insulation for a smooth and stress-free experience!
