Top Reasons to Work With an Insured Roofing Contractor

When looking for residential roofing contractors, one of the things you must check is their insurance. A reliable roofer will provide you with a smooth experience and quality workmanship, but accidents happen sometimes. If an unfortunate event occurs during your roofing project, you don’t have to worry because your contractor’s liability or worker’s compensation insurance is there to take care of the expenses.

That said, even if you get a lower bid from roofers with no insurance, don’t consider them because you won’t be protected from property damage and job-related injuries. Continue reading for more information on why it’s important for your roofer to be insured.

General Liability Insurance

Experienced roofers have undergone professional training, and they have the necessary equipment to perform tasks correctly and safely. Some even undergo rigorous certification programs by roofing manufacturers to further improve their expertise. It rarely happens with seasoned roofers, but a mistake during repair or replacement could result in damage to your property. For example, if a roofer accidentally swings a hammer the wrong way and it hits the chimney, this can cause some bricks to break. If your roofing contractor does not have liability insurance, you’ll find yourself paying for their mistake. But if your roofer has liability insurance, they’ll be able to cover the costs of repairing your chimney.

Worker’s Compensation Insurance

Roof work comes with several hazards since workers climb ladders and perform tasks on the rooftop. That’s why you should make sure your roofing contractor has safety measures in place to protect their crew from accidents and injuries. However, sometimes no matter how careful and experienced roofers are, there’s no telling when an accident will happen.

If a worker suffers an injury while doing their job, a worker’s compensation insurance will cover the costs of treatment and hospitalization. If your contractor doesn’t have worker’s compensation insurance, you will be liable for the worker’s injuries and medical expenses. The worker or their family could hold you responsible for the accident since it took place on your property.
